After the first set, there will be a guest speaker for the 5p- Society and a live auction. Current auction items include:

That’s right — you can also bid to play with the band when they return to the stage. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the party!

The English Beat The Five P Minus Society
The Beat (known in the US as the English Beat) rode the crest of the second wave of ska music into the early 1980s. Among their many hit singles are “Tears of a Clown,” “Mirror in the Bathroom,” “Too Nice To Talk To,” “Save It for Later” and “I Confess.” Lead vocalists Dave Wakeling and toaster/rapper Ranking Roger achieved further success with their next incarnation as General Public, with hits like “Tenderness” and “I’ll Take You There.”

Dave

When you meet Dave Wakeling at Maxwell’s, you will find that he is not only the Legendary King of Ska, but a super nice guy — charismatic, intelligent, and a force for effecting positive change in our world. Jude’s mom, Barbara, approached Dave for this benefit after learning of his involvement with Smile Train, knowing that this would be a perfect pairing.

The English Beat puts on an unforgettable live show. Come see for yourself while supporting a great cause.

Jude was diagnosed with 5p- Syndrome (a.k.a. Cri du Chat Syndrome) at 2 months of age. While trying to find information on this rare condition, we were fortunate to learn of the 5p- Society in time to attend their annual conference. We learned a great deal there about how to cope with the many complications inherent in a condition that has no clear prognosis, at a time when dealing with Jude’s circumstances had us exhausted and heartbroken. Attending that conference helped us to exchange our fear and desperation for hope and motivation.

The encouragement and counsel we received from the many families united by this support group has inspired us to contribute to the 5p- Society with this fundraiser. Proceeds from this event will go to the organization’s outreach program and research.

The 5p- Society is a national support group for families having a child with 5p- Syndrome, and is a not-for-profit corporation. Please sign our guestbook at the event or let us know if you make a donation directly to the Society. Your contribution is completely tax-deductible.
